GIMP version 2.7.0 has been released. Among the new features is the capability to read JPEG2000 files (.jp2).
GIMP (The GNU Image Manipulation Program) is a free software raster graphics editor, available for Windows, Mac OS X and Linux. Primarily, GIMP is used as a tool for photo manipulations, such as resizing, editing, and cropping photos, combining multiple images, and converting between different image formats.
